We're back with the latest edition of buzzwords!

This time, we pause to note the passage of another unfortunate victim the economic malaise that affects our state beautiful island and offer a nice little addendum to last quarter environmental theme issue: hybrid rental cars here in Hawaii!

Hawaii's newest on the water theme amusement Kandoo! Island, sank Only two weeks after the operation. The company $ 8 million experienced an abrupt end in mid-August, when the fledgling company, unable to keep up with operating costs, discontinued paying its insurance premiums and employees whose paychecks started bouncing just days before the company began laying off all but a dozen of its 253 workers.

The huge, 98 tons 148 feet-long steel catamaran, once anchored 3 miles off the coast of Waikiki, now sits idle in Honolulu Harbor. Equipped with a slide, swimming pool, terrace, and 4 full service bars, Kandoo! The island offers a variety of water activities including snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing and parasailing.

Kandoo! Oahu CEO Robert Maynard plans to make the island work again in the future, avoiding hopefully the fate of the defunct Hawaii Superferry, which ceased operations earlier this year.

Hybrid Rent a car in Hawaii (finally!)

It'll be a little easier to go green on your next vacation Hawaiian courtesy of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the first nationwide chain of car rental to offer hybrid rentals to customers here in the islands.

For now, there are 4 places where residents may choose from the fleet of company cars hybrid: Waikiki, Honolulu and Kailua on Oahu and Kahului on the island of Maui.

The 2009 Civic Hybrid and Toyota Prius in 2009 are the two most popular and widely available models. Energy efficiency-wise, Civic Hybrid gets 40 mpg when driving in stop-and-go traffic in town and 45 mpg on the highway, while the same year Prius is a little better, reaching 48 and 45 MPG, respectively.

As of this writing, Enterprise Rent-A-base rate per day for a hybrid car like the Prius standard was $ 42.74, the same yardstick as a non-hybrid vehicle like the Chevrolet Malibu, making the Prius the best choice for those seeking to take go green while saving some green. A large company of full-size hybrid – Toyota Camry – can be rented for $ 56.99 per day, about $ 10 more per day as a similar model as the Nissan Altima. For $ 75.99 per day, about $ 5 less than the cost of a standard SUV, a tenant could chase in an SUV hybrids like the Ford Escape Hybrid.

How can you tell the difference between regular and Toyota Camry Hybrid?

I'm 18 and I want to get the Toyota Camry, but I know the difference between these two. Is it expensive? If it is too heavy to pay then I'll just find something else. But I want a Toyota or infinite model.

There are few ways to differentiate without looking at the VIN # and / or opening the hood. First, forward, the chromed grille – the grid is all chrome. The only other Camry model that has all chrome on the grille is the XLE model and it is just a chrome surrounding the grille. Secondly, on the side there are the hybrid badges on front fenders, just opposite the front doors. From the rear, the taillights are different. In all other models, the rear lights are red and white with the party on the trunk lid to be Red. On hybrid models, the portion of fire rear deck lid is white / clear as well. If you look on the deck behind the rear seats, there is a fairly strong wind which standing on the deck. These ventilation to cool the hybrid batteries and is only on hybrid models. As for cost, there is a premium cost between $ 0 and $ 5,000 depending on the model that you compare the hybrid. The reason I say this is that if you're looking for a hybrid fully equipped with navigation and leather sunroof, it is actually a few hundred dollars less than a Camry equipped comparibly XLE V6. Even the most basic model of the hybrid model is most comparable is even more XLE V6 and basic and there are only about a premium of $ 1,500 for the hybrid. However, most people compare the hybrid model 4cyl LE in this case, there is a premium of about $ 5000. It is not comarison really fair even if, as you have the hardware a bit more about the hybrid is not available on the LE such as the Smart-Start and key entry, climate control and performance comparable to the model of the V6 Camry.
